Re: Heated bed adhesion
Cheers Guys for the tips, I managed to get some decent acetone from the chemist, a 50ml bottle, added 6cm of white 3mm ABS and alowed to dissolve. If you've got some vodka handy, then you can use your quality acetone to spice it up a little. Or perhaps not. I agree about the adding of a good size b...

Re: Being an adult is expensive!
My washing machine door lock broke, and considering it had lasted 15 years, I did not complain. Until I found out what it would cost to repair. The engineer wanted 135 monies just to show his face, never mind the parts. So I gulped, bought the lock for almost 90 monies and repaired the thing myself....

Re: Cheaper Bondtech feeder
I belive it would work for a certain range of filaments, flexible filaments would probably be too soft and just slip, and super stiff filaments might just snap. Good point. I really want this for the likes of PLA, ABS and PETG, in order to allow multiple short retractions over a short length. With ...

Re: Open Source and Ultimaker article
Bit of a puff piece really, didn't explore the practicalities and community ethos required to pull this off. It could work for just about anything, really, but it depends on the buyers being faithful to the spirit of open source (i.e. not buying cheap clone knock-offs) and manufacturers doing likewi...

Re: Heated bed adhesion
Another thing to bear in mind is that ABS warps like crazy, so bed adhesion needs to consist of more than just what's on the glass. You have to take the geometry into consideration. So, use around 10 lines in a brim, and use "mouse ears" in suitable locations that you trim off afterwards. ...

Re: Cheaper Bondtech feeder
Interesting. I have this idea for a feeder that does not use hobbed bolts but a series of driven grooved wheels on one side and grooved bearings on the other side, any idea if it would work?

Re: Allforge "exactly what your family needs"
Well, it turns out my order never went through. Don't know if I'm upset about it really. I was in two minds when I ordered, so I suppose the issue settled itself really. It has such great potential, so if the beta testers show some great results I might just have another go at ordering one.

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day
I used to ride a motorbike, a Honda VT500, in the City of London, the busiest part of London. I got hit three times, every driver was a woman
Now I have some to my senses and realise that motorbikes are for young people who need creative ways to kill themselves.

Yup, finally got it working. Th print quality certainly is improved with coasting, but there are numerous issue with Cura 2.1 that if I have time I will write up. At least you can see why it is still in beta

Re: Cura 2.1 open beta and Octoprint
Anyway now it's moot, because I downloaded the latest deb and got the "RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v11.0 to v11.1 but the Arcus module requires API v11.2" error, which I attempted to fix using the thread here https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/issues/704 , which didn't work ...

Sorry, I mean a machine profile, and I'm on Ubuntu 15.04, and I simply saved the file into the same directory.

I think specifying printers this way is really sucky, but I suppose this is not something high up on anyone's list.

Re: Cura 2.1 open beta and Octoprint
Things are pretty weird now. I opened the custom profile and deleted everything until it started being recognised, then added everything back in to get at least basic functionality. That worked. Then I saved that same file as "ultimaker2_octoprint2.json" and Cura fails to pick that up. I d...
