Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
Just tried this out on a 176mb STL file, it opened in just under a second. For files around the 10mb mark, it looks like the app takes longer to start than it does to display the file, so that's as close to instant as possible. Scrolling through files below the 20bm mark is almost instant. Brilliant...

Re: Paper like, flexible prints when using black PLA
I forgot to mention one more possibility, which is that the spool is damp. Try drying it at 45C for a few hours. I use a food dryer.

Re: Paper like, flexible prints when using black PLA
This might be down to a couple of things: the nozzle or bowden tube. If you don't have the Olsson block upgrade, you definitely want to get one now. With a quick nozzle change, you can eliminate a partially blocked nozzle as the cause. If you do have an Olsson block, then here is a neat way to ensur...

Been using Cura 2.6 beta for a while, and it's a seriously good upgrade. Well worth it. So many new features I won't mention that have really made things easier for me, so thanks to all involved!

Re: Can a 3D Printer Duplicate itself
The problem you have here is that you are designing for metal and printing in plastic. You need to design for the weaknesses of plastic, which is quite different. You will of course require considerably more plastic in order to get a stiff enough frame for a halfways decent print. It's an interestin...

You could put a tissue there as well, which should work quite nicely and not be as messy. Secure it with a rubber band underneath.

Re: Anyone use Polycarbonate (PC) or PETG?
I use cheap(ish) PETG from amazon, and I really like the material. It gets quite stringy when damp, but a few hours in a food dryer cures that. Otherwise, it prints well at high temps and is incredibly strong. It's greatest strengths are inter-layer adhesion and springiness. If you need to make a pa...

Very, very impressive. No if I only knew where to find that square rod and the thingy that goes around it, I would give it a whirl.

Re: Zero Gravity Direct Drive Extruder
Very fascinating solution. I would love to see what something printed from the far left hand corner to the near right hand corner (essentially along the natural axis of the rod) looks like, whether the torque on the rod results in any feed differences from the nearest to the furthest positions.

Re: Super hard nozzles - Test pilots
I think most people use carbon fiber filament, or any of the other composite filaments, just for the look of it. While I am generally not very impressed by PETG-plastics, I have to say that the matte slightly glittering surface that XT-CF20 can give is rather attractive. It is not the nicest materi...

Re: Super hard nozzles - Test pilots
This is a very fascinating thread, especially after I cam across this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scUEEQyC0GI They struggled with nylon (OK, I use that a lot, and it has a very steep learning curve), but the single biggest fail was carbon fibre. Now this is fascinating, because...

Re: Build surface advice
I use plain float glass, the stuff you put in windows. Works just as well as borosilicate and is way cheaper. I use UHU glue stick and that works with PLA, ABS, Taulman bridge and PETG.
