Re: Old PLA filament not sticking to bed

Just a thought, have you checked the diameter of that old filament? If it's less that the 1.75 nominal then your first layer might not be getting enough squish with the amount being extruded. If that's not the issue I'd try playing around with the extrusion temperature, raising it 5 degrees at a tim...

Re: How to create 3d model buildings from pictures

Sketchup has an excellent feature to let you set the perspective lines onto a photograph and then produce the solid model from that. You then need to hollow out bits of it, perhaps repeat the process with the roof to get that as a separate object. Sketchup is free, and also is very good at exporting...

Re: 1/160th 80' girder bridge

How big a brim did you use? I tend to use 8 as a default.

For something like that if a brim doesn't hold it down, I'd try adding Mickey-mouse ears at each corner, 10mm diameter and 1mm thick, to anchor them to the bed.

Re: Filament clogging in the heat-break - Solved

I built an enclosure for my TronXY Crux, and within three weeks I had the filament runout detector fail. It could be coincidence, or, it could be the elevated temperature in the enclosure caused a failure? The specs for the TronXY suggested over 30 C was getting marginal for the motherboard. I looke...

Filament clogging in the heat-break - Solved

TL;DR Too great a retraction distance during slow printing can cause filament jams in the heat-break tube I got my Hictop 3DP11 running again a few weeks back while waiting for a part to cure a problem on my TronXY Crux 1. The Hictop is excellent with PLA, sort of copes with ABS and PETG, but now I ...

Re: Filament stops feeding

" They are 36 teeth instead of the stock 40. Does anyone see any problem with that?" Probably not, they're not usually part of any gear train. The other pulley that presses the filament against the brass gear is just a steel pulley and turns just from the passage of the filament past it. I...

Re: Clear power failure prints from TronXY Crux 1

I managed to resurrect the 3DP11, which I haven't used for almost three years. I had a few (!!!) issues to sort out: There was an immediate MINTEMP error that I remembered was due to the replacement extruder thermistor having a Dupont connector that didn't fit as snug in the motherboard as the prope...

Clear power failure prints from TronXY Crux 1

I have a TronXY Crux 1 that recently began to give me problems due to phantom filament runout detection, so I used the Marlin GCode to disable runout detection while I ordered a new sensor. But I am now getting problems right on the start of printing which looks to me like the machine still thinks i...

Re: Heat Break & Nozzle

For the one with the large hole I'd be tempted to bore and ream it out and fit a sleeve to it. A piece of aluminium rod turned or threaded and bored out to whatever nozzle diameter you wish shouldn't bee too hard a job if you have a small lathe, even one of those Chinese CoolTool clones should be ab...

Re: Repair or replace clogged nozzle?

I had this issue with my 3DP-11, the nozzle had some damage after being crashed into the perforated board supplied as the base for ABS, and I found the nozzle so tight in the aluminium block I was worried I was going to strip the threads. A bit of searching through Youtube clips came up with the sug...

You have to home, it isn't a setting, it's a position measurement and could change between sessions.

Re: Newcomer with 3DP11

The Mosfets drive the heaters and beds, I assume? I was checking them during the test runs and they didn't feel as warm to the finger as the stepper chips did. I will have to check all the stepper motor currents as I had drifting on a test cube last night. I also think the movement is far too fast, ...

Re: Newcomer with 3DP11

Thanks for your reply, I had read through most of the forum posts but in the end I found an answer to my question in about the fifth YouTube video I watched, KackaWeek found the same issue and added extra washers. I solved some other build problems, the two Z-axis threaded rods were slightly bowed, ...

Newcomer with 3DP11

Hello, I'm just assembling the printer I bought two years ago (busy life). I've got the thing assembled and running in that I can use the panel to move the axes around, and replaced a broken Y-limit switch, but before I begin a test print there is one part of the build I am not happy with. The extru...
