Re: Filament Drives
Agree. We are at the limit of this ATmega2560, we must be very careful when we add something that could delay the planner loop.

Re: Fan shroud upgrade
I think we might have a breakthrough here... I eventually found a well known Asian site advertising UMO fans. You never know what you eventually get, but one buyer says: perfect replacement for the Ultimaker original fan. Same size, voltage and all. From the picture I eventually deciphered the part ...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?
Right - I don't understand either. It was about a software capability, like the Repetier guys are doing: you pass filament, the software learns the ratio between the extruder and the sensor. Once calibrated you are good to go.

Take the one that does it in hardware and leave me aloneNeotko wrote:But isn't better the sparklab one? I mean ofc that would need programming but seems more 'complete'?
Edit -- looks like the Marlin guys did not like the idea... (see here)

Re: Fan shroud upgrade
None of the support places I've seen stock UMO fans. Just UMO+ on up :-( And what about a stepup from 19v to 24v? This way you could use the easy-to-find sunon 50x50x10 umo+ fan on your umo. It's easy to do a stepup? I don't think it is necessary, the difference in not that big. And you are replaci...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?
Yes that would go in the (1) case -- a simple check on the signal
The SparkLab one is not working in the same way, it gives pulses when the filament passes.

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?
Right :) To elaborate a bit, (1) is relatively easy to do, because you just need to check a pin state and take some actions. (2) is much more complex, because you need to count the sensor pulses, compare to the extruder movement and take a decision based on that -- Repetier is quite nice: it it dete...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?
I think there are 3 different conversations here ;) Filament detector (end of spool): yes easy to do on UMO Filament jamming detector (sparklab thing): looks nice from Repetier, as far as I know, no such thing in UM-Marlin Measuring filament displacement for flow accuracy: experimental I am not sayi...

Re: Filament Drives
Yes, indeed -- the one proposed here is more something we can use to say: "I pushed 1m for this print, and it actually used 95cm, so I need to increase the feed by 5% or so". For a more in-depth analysis you need a much more accurate encoder (plus something to handle it -- not sure we have...

Re: Filament Drives
From the doc it is a HAL sensor so I don't expect high resolution -- but probably good enough for looking at differences on a print.
I didn't knew Repetier firmware had that capability built in, interesting...

Re: Fan shroud upgrade
Yes, I understand, but I am struggling with that. The UMO case is challenging, because you need a 12V fan that won't fry at 19V and does PWM. You won't find that in the specs, no manufacturer will guarantee that their 12V fan will happily take 19V. I guess we need a fan with no advanced electronics,...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?
Yes there are available pins on the UMO and they are nicely exposed in a header, so that is not an issue. UMO+ has the Ultiboard 2, so that is fine as well. From the firmware side, when you do SD-Card printing, we are exactly in the same case than with the UMO2. For USB printing it might be a bit mo...

Re: What's the magic temperature for the heated bed?
Nice summary Anders! I don't have this wide experience with 'exotic' materials but I definitely concur -- A clean plate is key and if you use dish-washing soap it is very easy to clean up the leftover glue (or hairspray if you prefer). Most of the time I print PLA with no glue, and then I also use b...
