Re: Quiet 3D printer

Thanks for you comments Never even had the slightest idea that something like this existed. I watched this video on it: https://toms3d.org/2017/12/09/tmc2130-guide/ It all seems possible with my limited skills. I have a question, I am now using an Ocotpi to control the printer, would I need to do an...

Quiet 3D printer

Hi all For my sins I have a Folger FT5 and have just built an enclosure for it in the garage, previously it was in my small office away from the house. Now "she who must be obeyed" has said the printer is too noisy, you can hear it in the house. I am doing larger prints so the printer is working lon...

Re: Need A 3D Model? I Can Help You Design It!!

Hi jonnybischof Just seen this post. I use Solidworks as well and have been producing .stl files for a number of years now. I have had no problems with my models, I may be lucky. All are solids and only have surfaces as cutting planes. I have done some very complex enclosure of various companies and...

Re: J-Head not working.

Hi Thanks for the reply. Your guess is very good it's 18mm! It seems the filament is melting in the PTFE, I don't think this should happen. I got threaded parts with PTFE and without, with a 2mm hole. I tried both but got the same results. The nozzle came with a 30mm fan with a shroud, as per most o...

J-Head not working.

Hi I have a Folger FT5 and have made a new head for it using a J-head hot end. I also replaced the extruder with a metal one. I would love to replace the existing print head with something better. Everything seems to be OK except the nozzle only works for about 2 minutes then seems to get blocked. I...

Re: Heating failed, Printer halted, Please reset.

It is a stock printer.
I have reduced the temperature of the bed to 80 degs for ABS and have had no problem.
For ABS I am using this seems to work OK for me.

Re: Offset in the X & Y directions

Just an update on the Y axis skipping.
I have been running it almost daily without any problems for the last month, so it looks like it is cured.

Heating failed, Printer halted, Please reset.

I get this error when I am trying to heat the bed to 100°C, it happens after about 80°C. Sometimes I don't get it for a few days, then, like yesterday it happened 5 or 6 times while heating the bed. I have reset, switched it off and back on again, but it happens again, then it will work OK no proble...

Re: Offset in the X & Y directions

Hi all
Found the solution to the slipping in the Y axis as above.
I tuned the motors, I increased the power by a quarter turn see:

It has been working for a few days now without any skipping. :-)

Re: Folger ABS

The "ABS Slurry" worked very well. It was like a thick milk when I applied it to the glass. :-)

Re: Folger ABS

I found some "normal" ABS and it dissolved in minutes, so it is the Folger ABS that's the problem.

I got this reply frm Folger:
It is mainly ABS but there are some additives as well.

Thanks,
Folger Tech Team

Now we know.

Re: Folger ABS

I can get the bed to over 100°C, it does take a little time.
I have been using glue but it doesn't always work with ABS.

Folger ABS

Hi All I have been trying to print with ABS with various results. One problem I am having like everyone else is sticking the ABS to the bed. I have tried making slurry but the ABS will not dissolve even after a few days. I am using pure Acetone and cut 1.75 filament straight off the reel. According ...
