Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day
My son has one. Already replaced it under 90 day warranty due to catastrophic failure (print head randomly embedded itself into the plastic frame a couple of times). Replacement broke down a week after getting it. He now has the CR-10 and loves it. If you want small and cheap, the Monoprice Mini is ...

Re: MatterControl, Open Source software
Another interesting tidbit - there is nothing tagged 1.7.5 in the git trees. Not sure what the 1.7.5 release is based on considering that info.

Re: MatterControl, Open Source software
The thing to look at here is the git log on github. Interestingly, the Master branch has had no commits in the last several months, but some of the branches are more recent, including the release branches. Kind of looks like the developers may be fairly new to git and don't fully understand the bran...

Re: 3D Gecko printer
I'd be concerned about the belt drive. While my Hictop uses belts for X Y, Z is threaded rod, which allows for better precision. I guess it depends on the movementsofa. XY for speed, Z for accuracy?
I guess I just don't know enough yet.

I wouldn't worry about power consumption. They can run off the power from your desktop's USB port. You can also get a power strip that has integrated USB ports and run them off that using USB->Barrel cables (I'm not sure if they are type M or type N, but they are common enough).

To answer your first question, yes. Pronterface is gone in the newer Cura releases (but the other features are worth trying it).
I can't speak for Octoprint. Haven't tried it yet.

This is what I was referring to when I mentioned trolling, not your posts, nilrog.

You can always file a bug report. Being part of the larger open source community, I can tell you that while forum trolls may not help, bug reports usually get the right attention.

Re: Keeps clogging, filament pulls out faster than stepper motor pushes
Another thing to do is get a set of tip cleaning drill bits. They really help if your tip is getting clogged and they're cheap ($7). I also recommend buying a bunch of extra tips, throats, and heat blocks. They're cheap (~$10 for a 5 pack of each).

I've gotten decent accuracy with the one I bought from Harbor Freight. I just have to point the laser higher than the extruder tip.

Ah, I get it. Customize/optimize as you go. Makes sense. I plan on doing that with my second printer, just not sure when I will get it. Next month likely.

Amazon has the 3DP-17 on sale
It is labeled the 3DP-14, but it is the 17 (new mainboard I think is the only difference). $318US.
