Re: Thomas tests various filaments

He slated ABS, which is a bit silly since it's so useful if you need a great surface finish and the part does not have to be particularly strong. Of course PETG will give you a really good surface finish as well, but it's much more expensive. You can sand and hand polish PLA, but it gets hot really ...

Re: BB-8 Frame print

I find that with a 0.8mm nozzle I have to drop the temperature by 20 degrees in ABS, something close to that in PLA.

I can send you the plans, and you can go ahead with your evil plans and send us photos of jets landing in your garden. I'm fairly certain that most of us here will be very entertained as you explain to the poor pilots why you are laughing.

Re: Super hard nozzles - Test pilots

I broke the nozzle by unscrewing it cold, sorry Anders. In my defence I had no idea it was only supposed to be unscrewed whilst hot, but it makes much more sense to install and remove nozzles under heat anyway, I just never thought about it. Never mind, when they come out I will buy one because I ha...

Re: 2.3 beta

Oh nallath you naughty boy. It's a bit inconvenient to go through several clicks to get to that, but what with all the changes I'm pretty pleased anyway. It is way faster now, and even my crazy huge models load in a blink of an eye, and don't take too long to slice. All in all, the new Cura is reall...

Re: Show off My latest Print

Alas, we have now, with the outside temperature around +1 Celsius to build the sukkah does not make much sense. Well, Manchester is hardly tropical, so another improvement I'm considering is to use space blanket foil underneath the nylon with bubble wrap between the two for insulation. Are you plan...

Re: Show off My latest Print

Given the fact that Sukkot has been going on since November 16, and ends the day after tomorrow... What is the strength of the geodesic dome? It is resistant to wind? So far it has held up really well. I should have really completed the bottom of the dome properly instead of using straight poles, b...

Re: Show off My latest Print

For some unfathomable reason I decided to build a geodesic dome sukkah https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukkah , and all very last minute-ish. The pipes are 22mm overflow, and the cloth is ripstop nylon, but all the connector hubs, feet and cloth clips (around 450 parts in total) were 3D printed. I did...

Re: The 3D Printing Nerd and Fusion 360

I switched to Fusion 360 from FreeCAD and Blender for most of my modelling work, although I still need Blender for rendering and the occasional modelling job that Fusion simply cannot handle at all, or only very slowly. The 3D printing nerd's tutorial was very poor, and did not really explain all th...
