I believe Ultimakers couldbe considered CoreXY. Not sure. See http://reprap.org/wiki/CoreXY for the definition.

Re: How much should a good 3D printer cost?
For those of us printing 28mm miniatures and other such things, a small footprint with high quality detail is what we're looking for. Unfortunately, the small footprint FDM printers tend to also be very low quality (M3D comes to mind). While the thought of owning a large scale printer (or better, ma...

Z Axis Anti-backlash spring loaded nut for 3DP-17
Anyone tried these spring loaded nuts? I'm curious as to which ones to explore. See if they make a difference in detail when printing 28mm miniatures.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!
Curse you for suggesting this on a workday.
I got distracted while waiting for the water to boil for my coffee, now I am 20 minutes late to leave for work.
I'll have to check it more tonight, but the gcode view does look a lot cleaner with that set.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!
Ok, miniatures with support issues aside, I am starting to like 2.6b even more. While the number of options available can be overwhelming, I just turn off those that don't apply to me (2nd extruder stuff mainly), set and forget some of the others that don't change (printer settings, filament specifi...

New card holder for my dentist's office
Finally, I managed to do a decent print of the Tooth Business Card Holder without having it turn into a complete meltdown. tooth1.jpg tooth2.jpg I gave it to the receptionist at our local OnSite Dentist (they have a semi trailer parked in the parking lot with full hookup and slideouts for the hallwa...

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!
So I have been using 2.6 Beta more recently, and am having some trouble (still) with supports. I like to print miniatures for D&D, and a lot of the models I download require support of some sort. This is what I got from printing a Catfolk Ranger with full support. catfolk-before.jpg Note that I ...

Re: Came back to a printer that won't turn on
Just a note, the power switches that Hictop uses are AC rated , not DC rated. See http://www.mouser.com/blog/which-switch-who-cares-if-its-ac-or-dc for a more technical explanation. I replaced mine with a DC switch from an auto parts store (same physical dimensions, so fit in the Hictop housing w/o ...

Re: Will not connect to Ubuntu machine.
It should show up as either /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyACM0 (depending on the control board rev).
There is no need for a special driver.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!
An Ubuntu derivative. Similar to LinuxMint. I'd have to give it a look over before I give an opinion. I have a friend that uses LinuxMint, and the only problem he has is with his graphics card (dual nVidia SLI graphics). Works fine in Ubuntu, PITA to configure in LinuxMint. No idea why.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!
Personally, I recommend Ubuntu 16.04, but you 'should' be able to get any LTS flavor of Linux to work. The key is to not get into one of the many developer's releases, as they tend to spin too quickly and are often too close to the bleeding edge, while the LTS releases are a lot more stable and have...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day
Been there, still doing that. My house was built in 1934, and I bought it in 2003 (I later found out that it used to be the local birthing center for this small town). The 'circuit breaker' was actually split into two 100amp bus fuse panels (remember the screw in type?), with 4 sub panels off of tho...
