Re: Cura 2.6.1 is out

As far as Cura goes, we're still supporting the old machines. I expect UM to continue to do so (if not, I will spend some time on it by myself).

Re: Cura 2.6.1 is out

Well UM isn't a 10 guys in a garage company, is a real company with a business plan and workers. Which is exactly why decisions like this are made. I think that a Garage like company is more likely to stick to bleeding edge (with no regard for other parameters). That's what Ultimaker used to do at ...

Re: Cura 2.6.1 is out

As for changing how the machines work; Ditching API (eg g-code flavor) for the same generation of machine is just asking for trouble. How are you properly going to communicate the difference between users that aren't technical minded (or keep track of bleeding edge differences?). It will improve thi...

Re: Cura 2.6.1 is out

Marlin is quite an unmaintainable piece of crap software architecture wise. Sure it works just fine, but making changes to it is really hard to do without breaking something. Besides, the um2 works perfectly well as it is now. Why risk changing it? There isn't a whole lot we can change without a re-...

Re: Cura 2.6.1 is out

UM2 did get a firmware upgrade. I think it just adds PP as a material.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!

I think part of the loading speed issue could be resolved if there were an option to disable debug printing (or selectively enable it via commandline). I'm seeing a lot of output on the console, at least on the Linux versions (and I just tried 2.6.0 release). Windows users can test this by hitting ...

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!

The Changelog mentions 2.6 Beta directly, I think you meant to remove Beta? OctoPrint plugin Cura 2.6 beta allows users to send prints to OctoPrint. Thanks to Aldo Hoeben for this feature. Derp. This is us writing stupid changelogs. As for the pausing; It's tricky. We try to show the splashscreen a...

Re: (Neo)Sanding / Ironing

The problem is that to give you the full picture of why this for me is the last straw/ I'm sorry to hear that. I really am. What stopped anyone at UM to just send me a mail and exchange ideas? Is that complex? I would be part of something developed by you guys. and ofc I would have say 10 times yes...

Re: (Neo)Sanding / Ironing

Is weird how all this is done. You guys could have contacted me about how I feel about using my idea on Cura, just as a courtesy. And if you say no, we could still have done it. I don't believe in these kind of courtesies. If the answer to a question won't influence what you're doing, don't bother ...

Re: (Neo)Sanding / Ironing

We just had a research sprint, this was one of the things that came out. Ruben also tried to do it with all top surfaces (so actually adding 3D moves to make multiple layers smooth), but that didn't work so well.

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!

I switched to S3D because I just couldn't get cura to print my minis correctly. Sometimes the supports would be different for exactly the same model while printing multiple at once. In S3D you still need to experiment to get the settings just right, but being able to manually choose where to place ...

Re: Cura 2.6 Beta!

I recently switched from Ubuntu to Fedora. So far, no regrets.

As far as I know our devs use; Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora & Arch.

This is why we have the custom printer machine action. It allows you to change the printer definition
