Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
Mac brings native support for STL thumbnails; they come with MacOS without installing additional software (so I was told). Linux … I have no idea quite frankly. While my viewer works well on Linux with Wine, I doubt that the thumbnails can be used there because the code is very Windows-specific. I c...

Yes, that’s understandable – you can point them here: https://papas-best.com/stlthumbnails_en
Not much to see there, but like I said, not 100 % finished yet …

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
No, it’s independent from the STL Viewer
Yes you should set the View option to an icon setting if Windows doesn’t do that automatically (the thumbnail handler does inform Windows that .stl is viewed best in an icon view, but Windows sometimes ignores that).

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
The Windows Explorer STL thumbnail handler? Here you go: https://papas-best.com/stlthumbnails_en Run the setup and you should be fine. A restart may be required on Windows 7. It does have the problem that the background of a thumbnail goes black occasionally. I’m still investigating that, but it’s o...

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
Amanda, beautiful boxes you have there! Since I last posted here (almost a year ago, the time flies), I improved the setup, lowered the system requirements even more, fixed many small errors, and improved performance. With feedback like yours, I feel that work was really worth it :) If you have any ...

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
I’m glad to hear that!
I’ve uploaded a new version with a few minor tweaks. Most importantly, back faces are now rendered instead of hidden. If someone missed that feature, get the latest version at https://papas-best.com/stlviewer_en

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
SmartScreen filter? There should be a small option in that window where you can install it anyway. Edit: Yes, click “More Information” , then “Run Anyway” . That’s bad. It’s based on download numbers (often downloaded files are classified "good", rarely downloaded files are blocked proacti...

Nice holiday everyone!

Re: I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
I have actually written a STL thumbnail handler – it’s as lean and fast as my viewer, and I’d *love* to distribute it! However, I wrote it for my company and I’ll need my bosses’ permission. That’ll take a while, I’m afraid

I wrote a bloat-free STL viewer
Hi fellow makers! I was having difficulties browsing folders full of STLs. So I wrote my own STL viewer: https://papas-best.com/stlviewer_en (Windows 7 or later) It’s very quick and you can go to the next file in a folder just with the right arrow key. It helped me a lot, so I thought I’d share it w...
