Ender 5 gone completely haywire

Post by tonys3 »

Hi all - i purchased an Ender 5 recently and loved it. Such a huge improvement over my Flashforge Creator Pro.

However, it has suddenly turned into an absolute nightmare!
I printed several boxes like this failed print that were absolutely perfect, then they simply stopped printing. I have 5 that match the image below, printed in 3 different PLAs (2 by Rigid ink and one other - this blue is the other) .

I find PLA dust around the extruder and occasionally hear the extruder 'jump'

Effectively, i end up with a 'bunch of fibres' lying close to each other :(

So far, I have tried the following:
Stripped the print head and cleaned the nozzle.
Stripped the feeder and cleaned it .
Modified the feeder by adding a brass tube around the pivot screw as the default design has the screw tightening against the plastic lever arm, which is just rubbish! It is now much freer to move under spring pressure.
Put a thermocouple in the heated (empty) nozzle and found it under temp by 5C).
As a result of temp measurement, i raised my print temp to 220 rather than 210 (system temp readings).
Measured print bed flatness (0.08mm dip in the centre)

Settings in simplify 3D for the mess on the print bed are:
4mm retraction at 40mm/s, 20% infill, 0.2mm print, 3 solid top and bottom, 2 shells, 60C bed, 220C print, 50mm/s default speed

I really hope someone can help as I have spent 3 days on this and am starting to hate this printer, which started out so impressive :(

Hi
I don't know if it helps but I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the wire to the extruder that was faulty.
Just a thought.
