Smilies are a bit overdone Paul :P

Pffft, my day has been a disaster. When trying to level my bed, I couldn't get Cura to talk to my Arduino. That was 4 hours ago, still nowhere near.
Edit: fixed it:

Yes...you mentioned the smilies upgrade was a bit of a fail....I'll work on backing them out and putting the old ones back!

Today I was a guest model at the local college photography class. My friend in the professor and she had a fellow photographer give a presentation about event photography, such as Comic Cons and Cosplay events. Different lighting, backgrounds, techniques.

Now I wish I could say I was the model because of my stunning good looks, my piercing eyes or chiseled physique.

But, it was because we wanted to surprise the students with a Comic-Con type guest. So, I was there in my Stormtrooper armor :)

Wow, you have a complete Stormtrooper armor kit?

A PhD student in my group is working on that too, but he is trying to print one, he completed the helmet so far :)

I was offered to help scrapping an old electron microscope today, but I had to say thanks, but no thanks.
Last time I took one apart one it was a lot of fun, but it took way more time than I have now.
Then it was lots of the usual stuff, ordering and picking up things, helping students fixing broken instruments, rebuilding/repairing some stuff and so on..
Ended up discussing 3D-printing with a guy that is manufacturing piezomotors in the evening.

That must be a very large printer to get those kinds of results

Yes my armor is called ATA Armor and it is a kit. The hardest part is trimming it and gluing everything up to fit you right. Then the snaps/straps to hold everything on properly. It isn't terribly comfortable to walk around in...the back of my knee gets clawed up from how the armor sits....but when you see the reactions...it's all worth it. Much like when people see my R2-D2.

I can imagine that :)
Even though the Delta Tower is a quite large printer, the helmet only fitted when downscaled to 88%.
So he ended up cutting the STL in pieces, printing them one at a time.
I think it needed more than 2 kg of filament, so maybe it was a good idea to print it in pieces in any case :)

Damn, I would love a storm trooper armor, or even a clone trooper. Man that looks nice!
I was looking into vacuum forming to make everything but never got to it.

ATA Armor (I an PM you his email) is what I have...he's pretty backed up on armor kits. You'd think a new movie came out or something!

Got a lot to do at work, and I'm still playing through XCOM2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. And I moved to a new home a few weeks ago. So, it could happen that I'm not online that often these days ;)

On facebook Ultimaker linked to a Dutch tv show where they showed a 3d printed violin.
Now there have been others before, mainly electric ones, but this one looked quite printable
Had a go at google and found the original site: http://www.hovalin.com/make/
I must say, I am SO tempted to try to make this. Not sure what material yet though, carbon, woodfill, or just a PLA/nGen/XT(and which color)

Great to have this topic here too :-)

But - what about extending it to "How was your day and/or night"...
mine was hard as I have to prepare a training for some product managers and therefore I have veeery short nights...

Another thing @ Anders:

I'm thinking since (at least) some years to buy such a small lathe like shown in you picure. As a owner - could you give me some hints if it is worth buying or if something bigger might be better... What is your experience and would you recommendi it?
