Interesting, not sure if this works when applied over the actual chip.
But interesting for sure! I'm gonna try this, but only when I have a new glass plate ready to go. Or is the glass needed at all? Perhaps another surface underneath the protector?

@Anders, I wonder if this does something to your Ruby?

I doubt that protective film would have any effect on the ruby :-)

Personally, I haven't had any issues with PETG/XT since I started applying glue before printing.
The Tesa glue makes the prints stick to the glass properly at the same time as it will let go before the printed object pulls chips from the glass.

It would be interesting to know if that protector film could improve the adhesion for other difficult materials though.

What a crazy day

Trying to install the china um2 hotend after assembling a real olsson, and fixing the metal fan cap and printing a top part so it fits fast on my umo+ (thanks meduza it prints fantastic) I did the huge mistake of plguing the fans without using the tester. They sell their molex with +\- inverted(because china clone um2 boards have that conector inverted). And lucky me I connected it to the led pwm to do the test.

And the transistor led pwm died, lighting fast. This it's the 7th time I burn a smd transistor (got a strip on a box).

At least I know in a instant if it dies. The effect this time was that the led at 0 was like at 50/255 and at 255 it was like at 10/255.

And the past week one of the heaters of the board died too. So I was very angry, I can live without a heater but not without led lights!

So I prep the operation room

Used kapton to isolate the damaged organ

Removed the damaged transistor

And installed a new bc817

The patient will be sleeping tonight but the leds are back and working as they had to. I'll go sleep listening to Yves Montand to relax a bit... Nighty9

What a neat idea to cover the area with (capton?) tape. That way the tiny neighboring SMDs can't escape. I really have to remember that one. Did you use a reflow hot air gun for this?

The kapton tape idea I must say that it's something I just did because seemed the natural thing to do, this chips are soo small.

I had use air gun in the second to fifth time, but last time a friend of mine (who teach me the basic to do this) used a high temp solder. So this time I just went with solder in hand and a copper wire. I should had use reflow on the copper wire I think but I forgot XD

The kapton trick works quite well. Specially since I took the chip out with a normal solder (not very thin tip).

Today got my first arduino nano and breadboard. I hope that soon I can start the first universal filament detector based on laser sensor.

If you guys want, you can see all the photos the pro-photographer took. Had a lot of fun! Two days in that suit...you sweat profusely plus removing all that eye make up....! But we raised a lot of money for charity :)
