How to Reduce Wall thickness
How to Reduce Wall thickness
NOTE: No need to read the text. My problem is in the first photo.
I have been trying to get the walls thin on items for quite a while. If I print the vase that comes with the Coocon Creater / Wanhoa Duplicator i3 V2 3D printer they are paper thin as they are suppose to be.
I have just printed a Virus mask and the small cover to attach the filter material. The cover is about 1.5mm wide and the mask is 2.5mm wide. I like to make the mask walls thinner, as it is a bit heavy. I have made the Wall Thickness as shown in red very low at .2 but that does not change anything. I also tried it at .4mm amd .8mm.
There may be a lot of serttings wrong in the attachment and any comments would be appreciated.
As with the vase that is very thin there must be settings in the .STL file I down loaded that need changing.
Wondered how I access those files?
Thanks

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
There may be a reason to keep the mask thickness as it is. It helps reduce potential layer gaps, and improves strength where it is needed. Do you have a link to the STL?
Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Thanks but I have the same problem with everything I print. e.g. canopies I print for small drones are too heavy and walls are too thick, I want these canopies thin as almost paper like the Vase sample that came with the printer.
I am not sure but I might have to learn Fusion 360 to edit the stl file.
Attached are the files for the mask I had the problem with. I have just started printing a better mask which has a bigger area to breath through. The bottom file is the mask that I am having problems with.
Thanks for your help.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
This is the better mask I am printing at the moment with the same wall width as the previous one. Mainly better as the hole to breath from is very large.
EDIT: The mask printed good but there are only two holes for the elastic that goes around your neck. Most masks have four holes for the elastic to hold the top and bottom of the mask in place properly. This one is all right but four hole masks and two elastics around your head are better.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
So it looks like Cura will not make the walls of the print thinner but I have to use Fusion 360?
Even though Cura has a setting to reduce wall thickness.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Cura does have a option Spiralize
Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Thanks. I'll have a look at that.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
If you want to start the spiralize settings look thru this article Combine spiralize and normal printing
Slicers Thick mode

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Thanks again. From what you have given me I have found links to other interesting stuff about wall thickness.
It my take a few night to understand it all but will let you know how I go.
Much appreciated.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Thanks I got it to print with very thin walls by clicking on Spiralized in Cura. I used PLA and it delaminated badly in three places but I guess I just need to get the nozzle temperature right and I'll also try PLA+.
In the last four years I had never heard of Spiralization I am not using it for the mask as reducing the Infill to 40% it is light enough. I am making a canopy for a small quadcopter and Spiralization makes it very light.
Thanks again.

Re: How to Reduce Wall thickness
Layer height will have a big play here, along with hot end temp. Go with a finer layer height and a higher temp (+10C) and you should see better results. You may also have to figure out a way to do some annealing. You can usually find a cheap toaster oven at a thrift store that works perfect for smaller prints. Otherwise, you can use your kitchen oven. Just hide the frying pans from the wife beforehand.

Thanks for the information.
Doing the finer layer height as you said and working good now.
