Reflective tape for protecting plastic parts?

Post by LePaul »

I came across a roll of shiny, metallic reflective tape in my basement.
I know people use this stuff to seal up insulation, faulty dryer vents and the like.

I have a fan shroud that is printed out of ColorFabb PLA/PHA and I was wondering if maybe adding a bit of this reflective tape might help. I'm concerned they might start drooping from the head even with the cooling fan running

Could do no harm, but it might not be necessary :)
do a print with a higher temp, en check if the fan shroud gets soft or not, even a few millimetres apart from the hot end can significantly reduce the temperature.

and if it gets soft, you will be able to bend the closets part of the shroud to push it out of the way a little :)

If you use it, test that the glue of the tape can take the temperature. It should, but you never know...

I was thinking about trying to wrap my hot-end with Teflon tape, the type used for threaded parts. Good insulator and heat/melting point.

Update at 6.

Rocko I would ask your question in the Hictop area or general hictop area

Edit: And please, stop asking the same question in multiple areas.
