Quiet 3D printer

Hi all
For my sins I have a Folger FT5 and have just built an enclosure for it in the garage, previously it was in my small office away from the house.
Now "she who must be obeyed" has said the printer is too noisy, you can hear it in the house.
I am doing larger prints so the printer is working longer all the time.
So my question, can anybody recommend a quiet 3D printer that doesn't cost a fortune.

Thanks

Lately everyone is raving about the TMC 2130 drivers. That would make things very quiet but installation and firmware is the trick!

You could also use the TMC 2100 - at my UMO just a pick n place without big hurdles. Firmware needs to be tweaked a bit too, but my master sgt. is now quite (!) happy with the noise out of my office...

Wow, glad I don't have that printer. I have both CR-10S and Hictop 3DP-17 setup in the dining room (too small to use as a dining room and it is between the kitchen and livingroom). When they are both going, they make a little more noise than our dishwasher or furnace.

Depending on how you made your enclosure, you could either have a sound dampening configuration or an echo chamber that is actually amplifying the sound. Kind of like farting on a wooden picnic bench (try it, you'll understand).

Oh wow....I mean the UMO can HOWL with those wooden box acoustics. When I had mine doing long prints in the basement, with a lot of retractions, you'd think there was a haunting going on down there

not at my house any more ;-)
I'm really glad ataraxis did the tutorial at UM forum - that's worth a fortune...

Thanks for you comments
Never even had the slightest idea that something like this existed. I watched this video on it:
https://toms3d.org/2017/12/09/tmc2130-guide/
It all seems possible with my limited skills.
I have a question, I am now using an Ocotpi to control the printer, would I need to do anything with this?
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but I don't know much about electronic or programming. Plus any other advice about these magic little boards, I was thinking of getting 2, X and Y.

Yeah wiring up those 2130's may be easy if you have the engineering mind like Tom

For the rest of us...it's a wee intimidating!

Well I have just received a pack of 5 TMC 2130, they came in packs of 5.
I read on Amazon that some of the clones are faulty, so I bought genuine ones.
I'll be tackling this when I have a gap in my printing. I have even bought a soldering iron, just need to read the instructions, if I can find English ;-)

Any tips would be more than welcome.

I am now ready to install the TMC2130's.
I noticed there is extra wiring involved and it seems to take out the LCD screen, is that correct for the FT5?

Not sure, that would be a good one to post to the Fogertech Facebook group
