What to use to glue/chemical weld different filament types

Post by nilrog »

Do you know what can be used to glue/chemical weld all the different filaments like XT, HT & Ngen?

Afaik acetone can be used with ABS and regular superglue with PLA. But I haven't seen anything about the other filaments.

If they are based on PLA, the method with the superglue should work for them, isn't it?

Regarding the material more interesting method of bonding different materials, for example, PLA and Flex together.

We always glue PLA, PLA/PHA, nGEN with CA glue. It still works when you mix these types.

I like the 'Purple' one from Zap (Both CA glue and accelerator) because these are less 'aggressive' (foam-safe) and are odorless.

All our gasometer was glued with it.

Great, and I can buy it in Sweden. I will put this on my list to try asap :)

(I found some hints to other types of glue but those were banned in Sweden.)

The CA glue and Kickstarter is good stuff....used it to put together my (ABS) Stormtrooper armor :) (Have to glue trim pieces and snap plates)

@nilrog: How much is the Zap Purple in Sweden and where do you get it from there?

I used this CA glue on ABS lately: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/ug_60s ... l-Glue.htm
It appears to have worked really well, although the glue hardens almost too fast. I have only used it once though, so I have little experience.

Using Acetone to glue ABS is not always that easy, I really prefer using normal glue.
Acetone tends to spread into the plastic, softening it so that so that a few millimeters around the joint deforms when you try push the parts together. Then it can take forever for the acetone to dry out, thick parts can stay rubbery for days if you are unlucky,

I use something like this, PVC glue:

It worked really well on my not so flat large prints. I can only imagine it works even better when I don't have to use it as kit now I have my HBK :P

That's a great find...if it can hold up to the demands of plumbing, it seems it would suffice for 3D prints
