What's good with higher temps and won't warp like crazy?

Post by LePaul »

PETG seems to be popular in a lot of the Facebook posts I see.

With BB-8, I'm concerned these large outer pieces that make up the ball could get warm and warp. Not only if in sunlight but from the heat of the motors and electronics inside.

That said...what would you suggest for materials that won't warp/shrink like crazy and not hard to print with?

Seems you posted that while everyone was in summer break :P

So far I have only printed PLA (99%), some ABS that I hated and will not ever print again, and Colorfabb XT which I personally like a lot and makes for very strong printed parts - but I hardly ever print it because it requires very high temperatures that I'm not comfortable with on my stock UMO hotend, and it actually sticks so well to my PEI build plate that it rips out the fibers :(
When my new printer is finally complete with E3D hotend, I will print mostly CF XT just because it's that awesome :)

/edit:
Haven't printed any Nylon / PA myself, but I ordered some parts from Shapeways (They call it "strong & flexible plastic", it's a PA2200 SLA powder) and that material is also really impressive. In the future, when things really matter and I need a small, functional part, I will order it from Shapeways. It's better than anything you can print at home, period :)

I don't see where Ultimaker sells their own PETG and I see ColorFabb has some in both Economy sized and standard.

The shrinkage still has me concerned but I may wind up buying a spool or two and seeing how it goes

Well, PETG is one plastic among a lot of Co-Polyester variations, Colorfabb nGen, XT and HT are all different co-polyesters, just as Ultimaker CPE and CPE+ are other co-polyesters.

Ultimaker CPE is quite similar to Colorfabb XT, the CPE+ is closer to the HT.

I wonder why Ultimaker doesn't have PETG filament

Probably because they found the pretty similar CPE filament better in some way? It was actually called UPET (Ultimaker PET) a short period when it was first launched.
