USB bottlenecks with OctoPrint?

Post by LePaul »

I kept hearing about "bottlenecks" using my Raspberry Pi 3 Octoprint and wanted to delve into it.

I asked on the Octoprint Forum and got a marvelous, really great read on how things work and where the slow downs occur.

Long story short, the USB controller on your 3D Printer controlbox is the key factor. Print fast, you'll see worse results. Print slower, within the margins the UART can work with, you're prints will look fine.

Here's the thread...enjoy!

Sounds reasonable. If you really want fast prints & octoprint, have octoprint download the gcode to the printer SD (very slow), then start from there. You lose most of your tracking, but ....

I still remove the SD card from the printer, Install into my computer transfer the G-Code and return to the printers.

Moved to new Thread

Now with Cura 3.6.0 working correctly on my computer maybe I can get 3D Printing dome more efficiently
