Hi all,

after years of use, the threads of the Z axis on my UM2 have acquired a layer of lube/grease and dust that is hard to tolerate. Is there a clever way to clean this without messing up the whole printer inside or taking the printer appart completely? What do you use to get the green grease that shipped with the UM2 and all the other crap that sticks in it now off?

This might sound overly simple.
Use a soft towel covered in WD40, I turn the lead screws / wipe smooth rods while removing the dirty lube.

1. Using LCD set to Max/Min while the 3D Printer moves to this location wipe off the dirty lube.
2. With machine is off Adjust to a dirty area wipe all smooth rods.
3. Re-lube all.

This works for me. I live in a desert area with more dust than most have ever seen.

My Ultimaker 2, upgraded to a 2+, has a pretty dark looking lead screw...Roberts advice is good.

Thanks for the advice @Roberts_Clif. I will give it a try. I thought about using Isopropanol first, but if WD40 works, then I go with that.
