PM Notifications...

Post by Amedee »

From what I can see, I don't get e-mail notification when somebody sends me a PM.

I have double checked my settings: I have e-mail checked for 'Someone sends you a private message ' in the notification options...

Is anybody else receiving e-mail notification on new PM?

Now that you say it, I don't think I get email notifications for PMS. I have also enabled that.

It used to work in the past for PMs.

To avoid any misunderstanding, thread e-mail alerts are working fine, I only have the issue with PMs

Ok...so let's re-group...

Thread subscriptions work

PM notifications are not?
1) You have them enabled on your system preferences?
2) Not in your spam filter?

Okay I think I have resolved this. My tests are working now.

I had to edit the content of the notification message. GoDaddy and many other relay servers flag messages that frequently have "private" in the subject as spam. Now the notification says you have a message. I removed "private" from the body and subject.

So you were suspecting us of using a SPAM filter, but it was yours

I confirm it works for me -- thanks

Ha

Actually I was pretty stumped, I looked all through the configuration settings and it's a pretty simple setting...off or on!

Then I delved into the PHP setup, which I don't know super well...but everything checked out there.

I called GoDaddy support last night after work and got a tech who was really quite brilliant. I walked him through what I had tried and we did numerous test messages. Since I could not do a test message with a subject line, I asked him to try it. That's when we figured out the keyword "private" was causing the GoDaddy relay servers to block the messages. I asked about white listing or some sort of workaround to allow them through, but they couldn't do that. It was easier to change the wording of the subject and body of the notification email.

They've been a good host, very helpful.
