LePaul wrote:I'm finding the days go quickly as I prepare for a 3-day John WIlliams Concert this weekend. This is the 3rd time I have been asked to participate in their show and a majority of the soundtracks being played will be from Star Wars. I love being involved with the symphony orchestra (90 piece!) and asked to provide R2-D2 to be on stage. Of course, I have nightmares of remote controls and receivers failing...which has never happened...but still, you try to prepare for the worst! The shows are in Portland (Maine) which is 2 hours south of me.

One of these days, all of these travels should be for a vacation :)
This should be great news! Will there be a live broadcast from inside R2D2? Fingers crossed!

Sciense 2.0 channel make a great series about the longest expedition into orbit. A year on the ISS! There are subtitles in English.

Very busy time (then again, when am I not busy...).
I've been working hard on my 3D printer electronics platform. Some polish here and there in the schematics, and I still have to complete the layouts for the two main boards, but I will be done with a first prototype soon-ish.

That won't work for me as I need to hold it under the clock, but that gives me an idea on how to start!
I was initially thinking of something at the base of the of the hotend, but it is definitely easier to start from the top.
Tnx for the link.

That looks great!

There's a few pieces I would like to use nylon for with R2...especially for pieces that move with actuators and ballscrews (like the lift mechanisms)

It is indeed an interesting material. When applying forces it will flex rather than break which makes it quite strong.
As bonus, it has a very nice finish.

Only downside I see is that it has a relatively low Tg (52°C from Taulman's data sheet), so it is not a very good candidate to operate in hot environments...

LePaul, what about the material from Igus, I was going to try it again this week with the ruby nozzle, if you can print at the high ABS temperature it is good for bearings
