Hi MTVDNA,

Welcome! Where in the Netherlands are you from :)? Cool to hear you are liking it so far. I see you are also on the UMforums :) Those brown spots look terrifying indeed. But yeah, should be fine.

[quote="LePaul"]Well I adopted a kitten,
She's lovely, what are you calling her?

And one can never have too many cats!
I volunteer at Cats Protection here in the UK usually with the cats that had had a rough time or poor start, humanising them and gently getting their trust, :-P

I asked my Facebook friends for suggestions....many are, no surprise, variations of Star Wars characters ("Stormy" short for Stormtrooper, etc)

Two favorites are Molly and Emma. But open to more ideas!

If you are a fan of Terry Pratchett and the Discworld books, We called our latest 'Esme' short for 'Esmeralda Weatherwax' one of the witches, but there is also a 'Tiff' 'Tiffany'
I still have 5 cats, Wombat, Tiggy, Coco, Thea, and Esme, all rescue cats, over the last 30 years we have also had
Rosie, Chloe, Bonnie, Danny, Willow, Cassy, Stanley ( a very old boy that's was only given a few months to live, due to his various medications he had been in care for several years, we gave 5 very happy months), Leon (lost a front leg to cancer, and became a tripod for 7 years).
OK I like Cats, I'm a mad cat person

Been very busy designing my own take on a CNC portal mill. I didn't want to buy a ready-made one because I have simply never seen a good one - within the price range I could afford. Zurich FabLab has a mill which "should" be pretty good. Steel construction, looks solid. Never got a single good result out of it.

So I made my own using mostly Misumi hardware. 3500 EUR worth of Misumi hardware to be exact (before VAT). So no - it's not a cheap build at all (I paid another 650 CHF just for screws and nuts in all colors and genders!).
Will open up a thread, maybe someone can spot out an error or something I should have done better.. (Haven't ordered everything yet!)

I sourced mine from alufraese.de / cncwerk.de.
To keep the costs acceptable it is with CPC Europe rails and TBI Motion screws. Not Misumi quality but still very good.

Compared to what I used in the FabLab, it is much more accurate and it cuts just like in butter (with the same tools!)

I recently bought a Shapeoko 3 from Let Elektronik in Denmark. Most of it is assembled but I still wait for some limit switches to arrive and then I need to print some mounting brackets for them.

I'd be curious how you like the Shapeoko

X-Carve was supposed to be a big deal but from what I read on YouTube reviews and elsewhere, it was a real disappointment for many

That's a tough market, trying to match what a full size CNC machine can do at a fraction of the cost but the same demands on accuracy

From what I have read the mills at OpenBuilds are better than the Shapeoko and X-Carve. But I have not yet any first hand experience with any of them.
