Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Cura 2.5 sneak preview
For those of you that don't really keep track of the github; The 2.5 beta is almost there and has a few pretty awesome changes!
- Faster slicing (~2x as fast). Cura is now multithreaded in certain strategic places. There is still quite a bit of room for improvement, but it's getting there.
- Disable auto slicing.
- Much faster (~10x as fast) project saving & loading
- G-code reader

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Really? What's Daid doing now?
Any hints on when we might get manual support control (i.e. custom placement)

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Daid has not worked on Cura for almost 2 years now. He has tons of experience with embedded software (which is also what he's doing right now).
Manual support is something that's on the big pile of stuff to do. It's pretty high on the list, but it's contending with variable layer height and a few other things I can't say much about now.

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Well, as I am sure you are well aware....the adjustable support is probably the biggest selling point S3D has over Cura for many.
But you knew that

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Nallath, please make sure switching profiles, cores, materials etc. goes much faster from now on... the current times are unworthy even for a free software...
Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Already did. Both starting Cura & switching is a whole lot faster.Dim3nsioneer wrote:Nallath, please make sure switching profiles, cores, materials etc. goes much faster from now on... the current times are unworthy even for a free software...

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Great! Thank you!!!
B.t.w. - how to adress filament cost and weight via the material file per material?

Nice work, slicing really is MUCH faster now!nallath wrote: - Faster slicing (~2x as fast). Cura is now multithreaded in certain strategic places. There is still quite a bit of room for improvement, but it's getting there.

I tested with the Fantasy Castle (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:862724) scaled to 60% at normal quality on the UM2E and Cura loads my quad core to 100% during most of the slicing: Saving really is insanely fast for models this large compared to older versions of Cura too!
The speed of the interface suffers from large models like this one though, but at least I can slice and save reasonably quick and reliably now
Someone might have complained about the auto slicing "a few times" though the years, that could have had an effect too I guessXeno wrote:***** Disable auto slicing. *****

Re: Cura 2.5 sneak preview
Nah, it's mostly the multi-threaded slicing. If one year of complaining isn't gonna do it, three isn't going to do it eitherAnders Olsson wrote:
