Well the kitten is home now. Her name is Molly and 13 weeks old.
She has a room all to herself (mine) and will spend a few days in there, adjusting to her new home.
She was initially very snuggly when I first brought her home, especially after she ate. But there's so much for her to take in!
It has been many years since I have had a tiny kitten, so I forgot how scared they are the first day or so. She slept with me all night, but if i pet her, she would hiss at me. When I left for work this morning, she had taken refuge inside the [covered] litter box. I've seen that before when i volunteered at the shelter. That's what they do when frightened and learning to adapt. (And how frustrating, when all you want to do is hold them and make them feel loved! But...slow steps)
My elder cat is doing very well. I placed the towel from Molly's cat carrier onto the floor so she could become familiar with her scent. She sits at the bedroom door, investigating the new arrival. As all the vet websites say, it will be a few days before we do any introductions.
