I'm trying nGen in the UMO and after messing with the right retraction settings and and upping the temp for the ruby nozzle a bit ....I got some good LOOKING prints but they come apart like styrofoam
Here's what I'm using in Cura 2.3.1
Fan is set to 50% (best guess really on that dual shroud)
Is my problem adhesion between layers to get a "styrofoam" type print?
With the ruby nozzle I would try another 5 or 10 degrees on the print temperature, the rest of the settings look good, so it is just a case of getting the inter layer adhersion right.
I am finding this black to be SO glossy you not only can't see layer lines...but you arent entirely sure if everything was set right!
I did so from 230 to 235 for the big print. I think I need to do a few robot test prints and try 240-245 and keep the fan down low.
I'll grab some video of the results and strength. The big piece is just amazing. It looks great! But the minute I pressed on it, I could feel the inner structure crackling. When I applied pressure, it was like ripping apart a styrofoam packing peanut!
Just looked at the wall thickness, perhaps should be 1.2mm so 3 x the std nozzle thickness of 0.4, it could be that the two walls didn't quite join. Unless your printing with a0.5mm nozzle that is?
And for infill try grid not lines depending on the shape.
Well I did a test robot with a higher temp (244) and it was very solid I couldn't break apart
So I tried the larger part with the exact same settings...same result. I'm stumped The Ultimaker 2+ is cranking out parts (16 hours each) . I thought that the basement is cooler than the rest of the house (it is heated to 60)...but given the other printer is printing nGen fine, it's not the environment
I remember using nGen to print a couple parts on the ruby-UMO over the summer and they worked fine. But...I was also using the old Cura. Maybe I should try to with that.
I remember having a similar situation, but with the transition from clear XT to PLA. After changing filament to PLA (red) the print would come apart real easy. Out of the printer they looked fine but putting some pressure on them delaminated them. Changing from red PLA to black PLA the issue was gone..
Hi Peggy, it's finding the right temperature, I test a lot of different filaments and with the same make it can vary between different colours, red and black can vary a lot from others in the range.
It had to do with the change from XT to PLA, the red prints very good normally.
This is not Paul's problem, but the effect of unstable layers sounded familiar.
Well my dreams of both printers churning out parts in nGen are just not going to happen
Changed nozzle back to brass one
Did a few atomic pulls, tricky with nGen since it will break off at 110C and not a good atomic pull filament. Switched to some UM Blue PLA and did 3 pulls. All clear and clean...good nozzle shape.
I've tried temps from 235 to 242 and it's not extruding very well from the nozzle. A few twists on the UMO extruder should produce a big pile of filament. Not on this printer.
I have the gcode set to extrude 19mm before print and I do not get nearly that much.
I'm going to try some prints with PLA since I've wasted so much time trying to sort out why this thing just won't do nGen well.
