Globby Resin Prints - Elego Saturn 2 and Lychee

Form 2, Form 3 , Elegoo Mars, ANYBUBIC Photon and much more....with the prices coming down, many 3D printers employing this technology are available to the masses!

Globby Resin Prints - Elego Saturn 2 and Lychee

Post by hernandito »

Hi Team,

I am fairly new at 3D printing. I have seen dozens and dozens of videos and I have learned a lot.
  • I have an Elegoo Saturn 2
  • I model in Fusion 360.
  • I normally use Lychee to slice at 50 micron layer thickness.
  • Normally I use Lychee's "Magic - I am Feeling Lucky" button.
  • UV Tools to check/fix issues.
  • I use Siraya Fast - Grey resin and white (but mostly grey)
There is an issue I have not been able to figure out.

My prints are mostly good, except there is always an area where the print is very "globby". I think this is mostly where the supports attach. I normally use Light or Medium support thicknesses.

Other sections of the print come out great.

I could not find a solution for this. This link does not provide a real solution:

I have tried various exposure times, orientations, support thicknesses.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

H.

This type of thing is normal with resin printers.
You can reduce it by putting more supports in. The other option is to have the face flat on the bed, this can cause other problems if your not careful.
Another solution is to put the part at an angle, say 45°, it all depends on the shape of the print.
Watch more youtube videos on resin printing, remember they are a guide, not a rule. It seems some are more geared to printing figures than mechanical parts like yours.
Also watch out for creating pockets that can cause suction on the part are distort it.
If you want to send a model I'll have a look and put suggested supports for you to look at.

I have a resin printer I don't use at home. At work I am preparing to setup my FormLabs Form3L Pretty excited!

For tips and tricks, there are two I really like

Thank you Guys....

Weird that all the ads show these flawless beautiful prints... and this globbiness is the reality.... Nobody talks about it.

I feel its resin that pools on the flatter areas mid-model that don't drain properly. I never thought of adding more supports... will give that a try. I also wonder if a less viscous resin will flow better.

I love Uncle Jessy and Veg Oil Man (I followed his original heater guide).

I welcome any more tips on helping improve this.

Thanks again...

The basic problem is you are trying to print a flat area, think about it. You have all these supports then the next 0.05mm is a big flat thin piece of cured resin, it going to flap around. Put the print at an angle:

Can you see that the printer is only doing a small area at each layer does that make sense.
