I just made sure the Snap Locks are on tight...one needed a little more muscle.
But...is there a way, using the Ulticontroller, to power on the fans?

So weird
Well I applied 12 volt into the connector lead. Only the original fan spins. So the splice things failed despite everything in place.
I guess the next step is order two new fans, splice and test those out
A little disappointed but fixable
The robot test print came out ok. Right side still has troubles. This this mini project.

Looks great!
It's for sure a good idea to use identical fans! Hope it works.
ps: do you plan on using the nozzles from either e3d or 3dSsolex ? They are a little shorter so then shroud needs some adjustement.

Is your new fan supporting PWM? It is problematic with some fans...
BTW, is your printer an upgraded UMO or an UMO+ ?
My UMO is quite old (board 1.5.3 if my memory serves well) with limited power and I would be very reluctant to set 2 fans on it as the current might blow the transistor...

I don't think it supports PWM...it's an old CPU fan from a Pentium Pro (200mhz)....remember those days?

From the data sheet there is no mention that they do PWM, so not sure (and probably not).
There are some funny things to consider with the UMO: the fan power supply is 19V, but the fan itself is rated 12V -- which is weird, but it works!
It also means that not all 12V fans like 19V -- quite some users have fried their brand new fan that way. My best advice would be to use identical 12V fans mounted in series. They need to be identical otherwise they won't work at the same speed.

What's the best way to splice into an existing fan wire? Such little wires give me anxiety! I think that's the problem with this snap lock, the wires are so tiny

And as Amedee said, carefull with how much pwm you set on your printer.

I bet that design could be rebuild to use x2 fans, but that won't work with e3d nozzles.
