I actually have some Igus drylin W raid and carriage assemblies inside the second R2. The center leg structure slides up and down that.

The prototype uses a 200 lb force actuator to lower and raise the center leg using a scissor lift style mechanism. On the Pro side, it has high static loads and very strong. On the Con side, it is very slow to raise and lower. I need to come up with a faster way, perhaps multiple ballscrews and an assembly that is motorized/belts/etc. that can lower and raise this faster...and a means to lock the center leg in place.

Nothing comes easy with this little robot

I tried the Igus 180 today, wasn't happy, I printed from 260' to 240' for the temperature test piece but couldn't get a good temperature, having layer seperation between all temperatures, and the top layer at 240 under extruding, will have to try reducing the speed.

Just another fun day at my house with a new addition....
droids.jpg
...a friend one of these Target department store display BB-8's. No, not to the exact specs of the real thing but still really neat. She adores this little fella and asked if I could open it up and improve the noisy motor that moves the head. While looking it over, there are a lot of neat things I could do to improve this. Authentic BB-8 sound effects, maybe use an Arduino UNO and an MP3 shield....and a decent little speaker. It's funny since it has a motion sensor to trigger the sounds and motion. My cat keeps trying to sneak up on it but is quickly scared away!

I've been compiling an EMA for my OU course and testing some filaments from rigid.ink printing for the 1st time with ABS filaments. Although I still don't know how to make ABS gunk to stick on the bed if been using the glue, and having increased the brim it's now not breaking free.
However as you can see from the photo below, the UMrobots are printed at 5' increases from left to right starting at 235' to 260', but the support for the hands has problems as do the antenna, they have all been printed at about 35mm/s with 10% fans just to keep the ducts cool and from warping.
Any help for ABS settings to correct the prints welcome, cheers, Izzy

It's been warm and nice weather outside for a week so I spent some time creating a slightly bigger/heavier "3D object" for my better half to plant a tree in :-P

:ugeek: Looks like you have some inconsistency in you heater as you getting colour variations, possible pockets of under extrusion showing through as bubbles, top surface looks a bit rough so temperature for top layer may be a bit too low, did you use Faberdashery Architect's stone or Laybrick?

Yeah, under extrusion was definitely an issue here. As was the temperature. The heated build chamber was a bit inconsistent. But i'm hoping that the filament will improve over time. There was also an issue with some bad supports. But all-in-all it turned out pretty decent. And i'm not going to try to make one more..."this is it" :-P

Tonight I started a new project with my oldest son...introducing him to the world of model building.

He got this set for his birthday...that requires no glue to assemble:

It's a real high quality kit...luckily the manual has very good pictures...because it's all in Japanese :-P

We managed to put together this part tonight...and it's guarded by two of his own LEGO creations:

We had a daughter 10th of May :-)

Things are fine except my wifes high blood pressure. so we are still in hospital.

That is why am slow at replying here lately, I will try to catch up with things coming days.
She is also reducing typing speed a bit right now when sleeping at my arm :-)
